Although the author is correct, I would not title the article,"Causes of Obesity." These are pertinent associations with obesity, but the causes are either of 3, genetic, environmental (or combination), or metabolic (hypothyroidism is not associated with excess fat except as it affects the ability of individuals to exercise and burn fat. the excess weight is glyco-protein, not fat). Cushings is an excess retention of fat. all other causes, yet to be defined such as decreased leptin receptor affinity and other genetic and environmental disorders that cause biochemical metabolic alterations.

David A Westbrock, MD
Medical Director
New Profile Weight Management Center
